Creating Content Types

The first thing your redITEM site needs is a content type (or more).  These types are the collection of fields and the desired structure of your site's content.

Creating a Type

To create your first Type, select Types from the control panel or navigation panel of redITEM.

From here, choose New.

The only required field is to give your Type a name.

Once your type is named, you can choose Save & Close or Save & New and move on.  If you'd like, advanced configuration of the type may be done on the Configuration tab.

Type Configuration Settings

The Type configuration has sections of settings that will allow you to fully customize how your item Type behaves with certain fields and within the item categories.

General Configuration

General configuration at this time contains the image settings for thumbnails of the items contained as this Type.

Items Configuration

Items configuration sets the default parameters for all items of the Type.

Use Google Gmap field: If Yes, a new field Google Maps will appear on Item Edit page
Default Item Detail template: Choose the template to use when displaying the full item.
Item's title limit chars: The limit to the number of characters that the item's title may have.

Type Access Control

Types can be controlled using Joomla standard ACL (Access Control Lists).  The Type Permissions tab allows direct and granular control of the ACL for each item Type individually.  By setting specific access control levels for a particular item type, Joomla site administrators can restrict or display item types for particular Joomla user groups, either standard or custom.

Customizing Type Layouts

redITEM comes with easy access to override specific template files for item Types.  For more information on creating and editing layout overrides see the Joomla documentation for template overrides in the template manager documentation.
